TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The second-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (7-0) heads on the road for the first time this season as they go to Hilton Head, S.C. for the Hilton Head Island Invitational (Feb. 29-Mar. 1). The Noles will go up against three ranked teams (No. 10 Grand Canyon, No. 17 South Carolina and No. 4 USC). Florida State will also face off against receiving votes College of Charleston.
Florida State enters the weekend 30-11 all-time against their four opponents, with all 11 losses coming against USC. FSU plays Grand Canyon (8:30 AM) and South Carolina (12:30 PM) on Saturday, February 29 and College of Charleston (10:30 AM) and USC (2:30 PM) on Sunday, March 1.
The Garnet and Gold begin their weekend against tenth-ranked Grand Canyon (4-0) at 8:30 am on Saturday, February 29. The Noles and Antelopes have met five times with Florida State winning every meeting. FSU won three of the five meetings by a score of 4-1. The Noles have outscored GCU 18-7 in their five meetings. Florida State finishes off day one of the Invitational against Tournament host South Carolina (1-3) at 12:30 PM. Florida State is a perfect 14-0 against the Gamecocks. The two teams met last weekend in Tallahassee, resulting in a 5-0 win for the Seminoles. FSU has swept South Carolina in nine of their 14 meetings.
Florida State caps off the weekend on Sunday, March 1 with matches against College of Charleston (0-0) and USC (0-0). FSU is 7-0 all-time against the Cougars, sweeping them in four of their seven meetings. The Noles are 4-11 all-time against USC. Florida State started the series winning the first two meetings but has since gone 2-11 against the Women of Troy. FSU lost all three meetings a season ago. This will be the first of three scheduled meetings between the two top-5 schools.
