NEW ORLEANS, La. – The second-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (6-0) went 2-0 on Friday with a pair of 5-0 sweeps against Louisiana Monroe and Tulane.
The Seminoles started the day with a 5-0 win over Louisiana Monroe in 37 minutes. Florida State won all five courts in straight sets.
Sara Putt and Maddie Anderson started things off for FSU with a win on court three. They dominated the first set 21-6 and continued that into the second set winning it 21-10. Alaina Chacon and Molly McBain extended the Seminole lead to 2-0 on court one, winning 21-13, 21-10. Kate Privett and Jenna Johnson clinched the match for the Noles on court five, winning 21-14, 21-11.
With the match against the Warhawks already clinched, Keara Rutz and Torrey Van Winden extended the lead to 4-0 with a 21-14, 21-8 win on court two. Payton Caffrey and Liz Waters-Leiga finished off the Seminole sweep with a 21-17, 21-15 win on court four.
Florida State finished the day just how they started, with their fifth 5-0 sweep of the season, this time against Tulane.
Caffrey and Waters-Leiga got the Noles on the board first against the Green Wave with a 21-13, 21-15 win on court four to improve to 4-1 on the season together. Privett and Johnson gave the Garnet and Gold a 2-0 advantage with a 21-8, 21-14 win on court five. McBain and Chacon clinched their first match of the season on court one, winning 21-16, 21-17. The duo is now 19-0 together on court one dating back to last season.
With the match in hand, Van Winden and Rutz won 21-18, 21-16 on court two to remain undefeated as a pair this season. Putt and Anderson capped off the day with a 21-17, 19-21, 15-11 three-set win on court three.
Florida State heads to LSU tomorrow to compete in the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge. The Seminoles take on Houston Baptist at 3:00 pm EST and No. 1 LSU at 8:00 pm EST.
