EMERSON, Ga. – The Florida State beach volleyball team placed a league-high four student-athletes on the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Preseason All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday, February 24.
Torrey Van Winden was named to the Preseason All-CCSA Team in her first season with the Seminoles. She is joined by Alaina Chacon, Madison Fitzpatrick and Molly McBain who all made it on to the Preseason All-Conference team for their second season in a row.
FSU is one of only two teams with multiple players on the list along with LSU, which has three. This marks the fifth season in a row the Seminoles had more players on the Preseason Team than any other program in the conference.
McBain, Fitzpatrick and Chacon joined Sara Putt, Brooke Kuhlman, Vanessa Freire and Tory Paranagua as the only Seminoles to be named to the All-CCSA Preseason Team multiple times.
A 2018 All-American with Cal Poly, Van Winden is in her first season at Florida State as a graduate transfer. Torrey went 19-9 in the number one sport for Cal Poly in 2018, earning a spot in the Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship where she placed third. Last season she went 5-4 with two wins on court one and three wins on court two.
Chacon enters her fourth season at Florida State. She has accumulated a 46-16 (.742) record during her time in Tallahassee. Last season Chacon finished a perfect 13-0 with all of her matches played on court one with Molly McBain. Dating back to 2019, Chacon is 27-7 on court one as she went 14-7 on the top court with Madison Fitzpatrick in 2019. Chacon and Fitzpatrick were named DiG Magazine First-Team All-Americans in 2019 and the pair was named to the CCSA All-Conference Team.
Fitzpatrick enters her fourth season at Florida State as well. She holds a 51-23 (.689) record in three seasons. Last season she went 10-3 with all of her matches played on court two. In 2019, Fitzpatrick went 27-15 and 14-7 on court one with Alaina Chacon. Fitzpatrick and Chacon were named DiG Magazine First-Team All-Americans in 2019 and the pair was named to the CCSA All-Conference Team.
McBain is in her fifth season in the Garnet and Gold and currently ranks 6th all-time at FSU in dual match victories with a record of 75-19 (.798). She finished the 2020 season with a perfect 13-0 record on court one with Alaina Chacon. In 2019, McBain finished the season with the second-highest winning percentage on the team as she finished with a 28-6 (.824) record. She was also named a part of the CCSA Pair of the Tournament in 2019 with Payton Caffrey as they helped lead the Noles to their fourth consecutive conference title.
Florida State kicks off its season this weekend (February 27-28) at home in the Seminole Beach Bash. The Seminole play Southern Miss, No. 8 Loyola Marymount, No. 6 Cal Poly and Tampa.
