MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The No. 4 Florida State beach volleyball team (11-4, 6-1 CCSA) fell to No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Southern California on the second day of the Bruins’ East Meets West Invitational on Sunday (March 10). After FSU took down Pepperdine and Hawaii on Saturday, UCLA and USC came out of the tournament as the only undefeated teams.
In the Seminoles’ match against the Bruins, UCLA was able to clinch the match quickly by taking the top three courts, followed by another point earned with a win at No. 5. Redshirt junior Sara Putt and junior Payton Caffrey came back to win a three-set decision to earn FSU a team point and end the match.
Later that afternoon, FSU fought off a tough USC team for the second time in four days, earning the first point with a win from junior Molly McBain and freshman Kate Privett at the No. 4 position. The Women of Troy then won the next three consecutive points to clinch the match before the sophomore duo of Alaina Chacon/Madison Fitzpatrick closed out the match with a three set win at No. 2.
FSU returns home next weekend for Alumni Weekend and a Garnet and Gold scrimmage, held at the Seminole Beach Volleyball Courts Saturday, March 16 at 1:00 pm. The following weekend, FSU will host the Seminole Beach Battle, welcoming Arizona, Austin Peay and Stetson.
