TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State beach volleyball team will open the 2019 season ranked No. 3 in the AVCA Beach Volleyball Coaches Preseason Poll, the coaches’ association announced on Monday (Feb. 11). The Seminoles are also ranked No. 4 in the DiG Magazine preseason poll.
The No. 3 ranking puts the Seminoles one spot below where they finished the 2018 season as the team took home its third National Runner-Up title (second since beach volleyball became an NCAA-sanctioned sport in 2016). It is the second time the team has been ranked third after finishing as the National Runners-Up the year prior.
Florida State heads into its eighth season in 2019 and fourth as an NCAA Championship sport. FSU finished as the CCSA Champions for the third year in a row in 2018, and has remained undefeated against every East Coast team since head coach Brooke Niles came to Tallahassee in 2016.
The Seminoles will face 16 of the 20 teams ranked in the AVCA Preseason Poll this season, including all other top-10 teams. The rankings also include CCSA conference opponents LSU, South Carolina, FIU, Georgia State, Tulane, TCU and FAU, while UAB, College of Charleston and Southern Miss were among the schools receiving votes.
