HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (29-4) earned a 5-0 sweep of UNCW (6-12) on Friday morning in the first round of the CCSA Championship.
In just 40 minutes the Seminoles earned five straight-set wins over the Seahawks to advance to the second round of the CCSA Tournament.
Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson cruised to 21-7, 21-9 win on court two. The Seminoles quickly clinched the match with almost simultaneous wins on courts one and three. Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz showed why they were named to the All-Conference Team yesterday, earning a 21-8, 21-16 win on court one. Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey clinched things on court three with a 21-12, 21-19 win.
Jenna Johnson and Kate Privett expanded the lead to four with a 21-10, 21-15 win on court five and Sara Putt and Raelyn White finished off UNCW with a 21-15, 21-15 win on court four.
Florida State will play No. 17 South Carolina tomorrow at 9:30 am ET. The winner of that match will play at 3:30 pm ET and the loser will play at 2 pm ET.
