TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 2019 CCSA Conference Champion Florida State beach volleyball team announced its 2020 spring schedule on Monday. The schedule is highlighted by two home events and eight weeks of regular season play. Florida State plays 13 matches against teams that made the 2019 NCAA Championship.
The Seminoles are coming off a season in which they went 29-7, making their eighth straight postseason appearance and earning their fourth straight Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championship. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The team begins its ninth season in 2020 and fifth under head coach Brooke Niles. Since 2016 – when beach volleyball became an NCAA sanctioned sport and the Seminoles joined the CCSA – FSU has only lost one match against teams east of California.
Florida State starts off the season hosting its first of two home tournaments. The Noles begin their three-day tournament on Friday, February 21 with a match against ULM. The Seminoles then host Houston Baptist, Stetson and TCU on Saturday, February 22 before capping off the weekend with Cal Poly, South Carolina and Tampa on Sunday, February 23
The Noles then head to Hilton Head, S.C. to take on Grand Canyon and South Carolina on February 29 before taking on the College of Charleston and USC on March first. Florida State only has one day of matches the next weekend as they play duals against UNF and UNCW in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 7.
The Garnet and Gold stay in Florida for the next weekend as they take on USC, Hawaii, UAB and Stetson in Deland, Fla. On March 14-15. FSU then heads to the beaches of Gulf Shores, Ala. to take on Tulane, Southern Miss, Georgia State and LSU on the host site of the 2020 National Championship.
Florida State is back in their home state for a two-week swing that begins with the Surf n’ Turf Invitational in Miami, Fla (March 27-28). The Noles take on a group of west coast teams, including Stanford, Pepperdine, UCLA and Cal to go along with a match against FAU. The Seminoles come back home for their final home tournament of the season as they host Coastal Carolina and Springhill on Friday, April 3 and FIU on Saturday, April 4.
The Florida State beach volleyball team concludes their 2020 regular season with their annual trip out to California for the East Meets West Invitational on Manhattan Beach. FSU takes on Pepperdine, Hawaii and Cal on Saturday, April 11 and cap off the regular season with USC and UCLA on Sunday, April 12.
Florida State will look for its fifth-straight CCSA Conference title at the end of April in Huntsville, Ala (April 17-19). The Seminoles will then look for their ninth-straight NCAA/AVCA Championship bid after a week off to prepare for another championship run (May 1-3).
