Freshman Anna Sophia Böhmer shot a career-low 71 in the first round and is in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings and the Seminoles are in fifth place in the team standings after one round of the 42nd Annual Lady Paladin Invitational on the Furman University Golf Course. Böhmer carded a single round career-high five birdies, was never above par during and is only three strokes behind Ashlan Ramsey of Clemson and Eunice Yi of Georgia Regents University — the individual leaders after 18 holes.

Georgia Regents (formerly Augusta State) holds the first round lead with a two stroke advantage over Clemson. The Jaguars were two under par on their back nine as a team and took over the lead mid-way through the first round.

Florida State was led in the first round by Böhmer and fellow freshman Matilda Castren. With scores of 71 and 73 respectively, the pair finished with a combined score of even par. The Seminoles’ 6-over par team score of 294 was its’ best of the fall season.

Böhmer (Cali, Colombia) played a very solid round as she began the day with three birdies and eight holes played at par in her first 11 holes to run out to a 3 under par score. She closed the round with two more birdies including two on her final three holes. Böhmer scored her first four holes at par and earned her first birdie on hole No. 4 to go below par for the first time during the day. She would advance to as many as 3 strokes under par before playing her final seven holes at 2 over par to finish with her score of 71.

“I focused on one shot at a time and trusted my game,” said Böhmer after the round.

The score of 71 ranks as Böhmer’s lowest of her now four-round Florida State career. She carded scores of 77-77-76 in the first three rounds of her career of the fall season opening Mo Morial Invitational at Texas A&M University. She finished in a tie for 31st place in the individual standings at the Mo Morial.

Castren (Espoo, Finland) is in a tie for 14th place in the individual standings after carding a 2-over par score of 73 in the first round. She carded three birdies and was never more than two strokes over par during the round. Castren was one over par on both sides of the course with one birdie on the front nine (hole No. 3) and two on the back nine (holes Nos. 13 and 18). Castren birdied her final hole of the round to card her second consecutive score of 73. She closed the Mo Morial Invitational with a score of 73 as she finished in a career-best tied for 15th place in the individual standings.

Junior Alex Milan (Lutz, Fla.) continued her strong play to begin the fall season as she carded a 2- over par score of 74 and is in a tie for 27th place in the individual standings. She carded two birdies and 13 holes at par in finishing with her second consecutive score of 74 and her third consecutive score of 74 or better. Milan carded a career best 71 in the second round of the season opening Mo Morial Invitational.

Saturday’s second round will be played utilizing a shotgun start and will start at 9:00 a.m. The round was originally scheduled to be played from tees No. 1 and 10 but impending inclement weather has forced a change in the format of the round.
