Greensboro, NC – Florida State right-hander Blair Varnes was named ACC Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Virginia. Varnes recorded his second career complete game in the Seminoles’ 9-2 win over Virginia on Saturday. The junior established a new career-high with 12 strikeouts in a game while allowing just two earned runs, two walks and eight hits. On the season, Varnes improved to 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA and a team-high 36 strikeouts. Florida State’s winning streak is now at 11 games and the Seminoles are now 14-5 on the season.
NC State’s Brian Wright was named ACC Player of the Week. Wright helped the Wolfpack take two-of-three from then-No. 1 Georgia Tech over the weekend. The junior outfielder had six hits and seven RBI on Sunday against the Yellow Jackets. Florida State travels to NC State this weekend for a three-game series.
