Blixt Finishes In 6th; Florida State In 8th At Isleworth-UCF Invitational

Seminole junior Jonas Blixt finished in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings to lead the Florida State men’s golf team to a tie for eighth place finish in the team standings as play in the Third Annual Isleworth-UCF Invitational at the Isleworth Country Club came to a close Tuesday. Blixt carded a third consecutive score of one-over par 73 to finish with a 216 total to earn his third consecutive top-six individual finish. The Seminoles earned four top-10 team finishes in their four events this fall.

Texas, which entered the tournament ranked lowest out of the entire field of 18 in Golfstat’s latest rankings (No. 69), and second lowest in Golfweek’s poll (No. 57), won the team championship as they out-distanced second-place Florida by 12 strokes. Brian Harman of Georgia won the individual competition with an even par score of 216. Harman held off SEC rival Billy Horschel of Florida and Wake Forest’s Dustin Groves as that duo finished tied for runner-up with respective scores of 217 (+1).

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) was very consistent throughout the event as he carded scores of 73-73-73 to finish with a three-over par score of 219. He finished only three strokes behind Harman for individual medalist honors. Blixt survived a double-bogie on hole No. 2 and a pair of bogies on the back nine to finish at one-over par for the day. He has now earned five career top-10 finishes.

Sophomore Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) shot a three-over par 75 in the third and final round to finish in a tie for 25th place. He finished in the top 25 in each of he Seminoles’ four events this fall. Savage played well and also survived a double-bogie and four bogies to finish with a 75. He did card three birdies and 10 holes at par in the final round.

Freshman Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) and freshman Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) played well during the event. Lauer carded an even par 72 in the first round while Knight scored a two-over par 74 in the second round. Sophomore Nicholas Smith (Ocala, Fla.) also played in the event for the Seminoles.

Florida State closed their fall campaign with the conclusion of the Isleworth Invitational. The team opens their spring 2007 season at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville Feb. 10-11.
