TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State senior diver Ayla Bonniwell was awarded her second ACC Diver of the Week honor this season and fifth of her career following her performance against No. 1 Florida on Friday and at the quad meet on Saturday.
The Ithaca, N.Y., native won three of four events this weekend and tallied a personal best score of 336.52 on 1-meter, which was 1.08 points shy of the FSU record set back in 2015 by Katrina Young at 337.60.
“Ayla really answered the call this weekend,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Out of the four lists she did, she really only missed a couple of dives. Her 1-meter list on Saturday was a ton of fun to watch. When she’s in the zone she’s so tough. She’s really having one helluva senior year. I couldn’t be more proud of her.”
Bonniwell was the winner on 1-meter on Friday against the Gators with a score of 301.35 and also took third on 3-meter at 302.10.
Less than 24 hours later, Bonniwell helped the 20th-ranked Noles to three wins over West Florida, North Florida and Florida Southern with victories on 1-meter (336.52) and 3-meter (330.58).
In her senior season, Bonniwell has eight diving wins over six meets.
The Seminoles (5-3, 1-2 ACC) will head to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Invite from Nov. 22-24.
