TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State men’s tennis player Clint Bowles competes in the ITA National Indoor Championships starting Thursday, November 5. He becomes only the second Seminole to make the National Indoors.
This year’s event is hosted by Yale University and will take place November 5-8 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. No. 33 Bowles, a junior from Tampa, Fla., faces John Huang of Yale tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
“Clint’s been practicing real hard,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “I think it gives Clint a good opportunity to show he’s one of the best players in the country. Anytime you come off winning a tournament you’re feeling really pretty good about yourself. Clint’s also not a guy who gets too high winning that. He’s going up there to try to win some matches and beat some good players and hopefully get deeper into the tournament.”
The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships are the second of three national tournaments for singles and doubles during the collegiate tennis season.
These championships feature a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: champions from Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held in October, the ITA National Small College champions, the winners of the D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Tennis Championships and Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee.
Bowles qualified as the winner of the Southeast Wilson/ITA Regional Championships.
Past champions and finalists include current professionals Benjamin Becker (Baylor), James Blake (Harvard), Bob and Mike Bryan (Stanford), John Isner (Georgia) and Kevin Kim (UCLA).
