TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State men’s golfer Brett Roberts has been selected to the five-member Golf Coaches Association of America All-Freshman Team, announced by the collegiate golf organization.
Roberts joins Michael Brennan of Wake Forest, North Carolina’s Peter Fountain, Oklahoma State’s Bo Jin, and Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner Nick Gabrelcik of North Florida.
Roberts, who hails from Coral Springs, Fla., had one of the better freshman campaigns in program history and was a mainstay in the FSU starting lineup. He joined John Pak and Vincent Norrman as the three Seminoles to participate in all 10 tournaments played, finishing with a 71.68 stroke average, +0.23 vs. par, 17 rounds at par or less and four finishes in the Top 10.
In two of the toughest tournaments FSU played this season, Roberts recorded season bests with fifth-place finishes. At The Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla., he carded a 1-under 215 (73-71-71), and also placed fifth at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional when he shot a 7-under 209 (68-69-72).
He also had two tournaments where he tied for 11th, marking six tournaments in the Top 11 this season.
Roberts becomes the third Seminole freshman to earn All-America honors, joining Jack Maguire in 2014 and Pak in 2018.
Roberts recorded nine rounds this season that were in the 60s, highlighted by a season low 67 in three different events. He also executed in match play in 2021, finishing 2-0 in the ACC Championship when he defeated his opponents from North Carolina and Clemson.
