TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State beach volleyball head coach Brooke Niles will coach the USA U21 team at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Thailand on June 18-23. Seminole Alaina Chacon was selected as part of the reserve pair for team USA.
The USA Volleyball U21 World Championship team selection consisted of a two-day trial at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center.
After training sessions on day one, teams were formed by pairing the athletes according to rank order, position and pairing dynamics. Pairs then competed in a tournament to determine final rankings.
The first, second, and third place pairs are submitted as the USA delegation for the FIVB U21 World Championships in Udonthani, Thailand, June 18-23, 2019. The first-place pair will be entered into the main draw, second place into the qualification tournament, and the third pair will be entered as a potential wild card entry, pending FIVB approval.
The first- and second-place pairs will train and travel for the competition. The third-place athletes will be submitted as a reserve team to be called upon in case of injury, but the pair will also participate in the training before the team departs to Thailand.
