Brynjarsdottir Recognized Nationally’s Team of the Week – Sept. 2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Dagny Brynjarsdottir was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week after leading the second-ranked Seminoles to a pair of road wins over Oklahoma State and Oklahoma to improve to 4-0-0 on the year.

The Icelandic native scored two of Florida State’s three goals last week to push her team leading total to three goals on the year.

Trailing 1-0 after the 33rd minute in Stillwater against Oklahoma State, the Seminoles finally found the equalizer in the 81st minute on a goal by the senior captain. Brynjarsdottir one-timed a rebound off a deflected shot by Kristin Grubka inside the left post to tie the match at 1-1 and force overtime. FSU went on to defeat Oklahoma State 2-1 in double overtime.

Brynjarsdottir followed two days later with the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma in Norman. Brynjarsdottir gave the Noles the early lead finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute for her third goal of the season. The goal, the eventual game-winner, came off a long throw-in from Megan Campbell as the Irish native heaved the ball inside the six-yard box that skipped over a line of players and right to a wide open Brynjarsdottir who finished the play with an easy header into the back of the net.

The game-winning goal was Brynjarsdottir’s 15th of her career making her the all-time leader in school history.

Brynjarsdottir and the Seminoles are back in action on Friday, September 5 when they face intra-rival Florida. Game time is set for 7 pm and will air live on ESPN3. Stay tuned to all season long for continued coverage of the Florida State Soccer team.
