TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Brian Burns will participate in the 2019 State Farm All-Star Football Challenge at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, it was announced Friday. The 21st edition of the All-Star Football Challenge will air Friday, Feb. 1 at 9 p.m. on ESPN2.
The skills competition will feature 24 of college football’s brightest stars divided into six teams based on their college conference. Each team will consist of four players from the same conference, with each Power 5 conference represented as well as a “Wild Card” team made up of players from outside of the Power 5.
Burns, who declared for the 2019 NFL Draft following his junior season, ended his career at Florida State ranked fifth in program history with 24.0 sacks and eighth all-time with 39.5 tackles for loss. His career included 25 starts in 38 games played with 124 tackles, seven forced fumbles, seven pass breakups, three blocked kicks and two fumble recoveries.
In his final season in Tallahassee, the Fort Lauderdale native earned first-team All-ACC honors as well as fourth-team All-America recognition and was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award. He recorded 52 tackles, including 15.5 for loss with 10.0 sacks, eight quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. He led the ACC with 15.5 tackles for loss, 112 tackles for loss yards, 10.0 sacks and 94 sack yards lost in conference play, and his sacks per game average ranked first in the ACC and eighth in the NCAA. He also ranked third in the conference in forced fumbles per game and fifth in tackles for loss per game.
The ACC team features Burns, North Carolina State quarterback Ryan Finley, Notre Dame defensive back Julian Love and Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. Each player will participate individually in a timed event and then finish with a full-team event. All events will be timed and have individual winners, which will compile into a cumulative score to determine the winning team. The events include the State Farm QB Accuracy Competition, the Hands Competition, the Quicken Loans Lineman Strength Challenge, the Mercedes-Benz Obstacle Course and the State Farm Team Competition.
The previous 20 versions of the State Farm All-Star Football Challenge have included 75 first-round draft picks, including 2018’s 17th overall selection former FSU defensive back Derwin James.
