TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Two members of the Florida State swimming and diving team won gold at two national meets. Incoming freshman Molly Carlson won gold and bronze at the 2016 Elite Junior National Championships in Canada, while rising sophomore Emir Muratovic won two events at the Bosnian National Championships.
Carlson first placed fifth on 1-meter with a score of 418.45 before capturing gold in 3-meter with a score of 505.30. She closed out the meet by taking bronze in 10-meter with a total of 389.45.
“I was really pleased I got to compete in my last junior national and come away with a gold medal,” Carlson said. “
With her first place finish on 3-meter, Carlson qualifies for the 2016 World Junior Championships in Russia in December.
Muratovic, who set Bosnian National records in the 100m and 50m free at the Bosnian National Swim Meet. Muratovic posted a 50.70 in the 100 free and 23.31 in the 50, eclipsing the marks of 50.92 and 23.47 respectively.
“It was awesome going to my home country and hearing my people cheer for me,” Muratovic said. “It was a different type of motivation and I was able to come back to go faster at finals. I went to this meet so I can attempt to represent Bosnia in the 2020 Olympics.”
