David Beauchem brings 19 years of NCAA Division I head coaching experience to Florida State as the director of operations for cross country and track & field. Joining the staff in the fall of 2015, Beauchem enters year two of his second career stop in Tallahassee, where he first served as a graduate assistance coach under Terry Long from 1991-93.
Prior to his arrival, Beauchem was the head cross country coach and track & field assistant at Southern Illinois (2014-15), where he had starred in cross country and on the track in the steeplechase as an undergraduate. Before joining the Salukis the Byron, Ill. native spent four seasons as the head track & field and cross country coach at Western Illinois, following a 16-year run in the same positions at Bradley University. Between those two stops he produced countless Missouri Valley and Summit League champions and all-conference performers.
Well acquainted with the professional side of the business, he has served in leadership positions with the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as a conference and regional representative, in addition to the a six-year run as the Division I treasurer. Beauchem also served two years on the NCAA Division I track & field committee.
A 1990 graduate of SIU with a degree in recreation, he earned his master’s degree in leisure services from Florida State in 1993.
Beauchem and his wife, Vicky, have three sons – Justin and Payton Haight and Isaac Beauchem – and a daughter, Marly Beauchem.
