Assistant Coach
  • Joy McCorvey was announced as an assistant coach for the Florida State Women’s Basketball team on May 4, 2018, by head coach Sue Semrau.
  • McCorvey spent her last six years (2012-18) as an assistant coach at Michigan out of the Big Ten.
  • A four-year captain at St. John’s from 2006-10, she helped build up the Michigan women’s basketball program during her six seasons in Ann Arbor.
  • One of her responsibilities over her last five years has been the development of her post players, helping pave the way for a second-round NCAA Tournament appearance for the Wolverines in 2017-18.
  • Michigan led the Big Ten in 2017-18 in rebound margin at +8.5 per game, a statistic that has been synonymous with Florida State’s success.
  • A special 2016-17 season in which Michigan set its program mark with 28 wins included helping former post player Cyesha Goree receive her second consecutive All-Big Ten second team honor.
  • McCorvey’s established résumé also includes coaching five different players to eight All-Big Ten honors, including incoming Florida State Women’s Basketball graduate assistant Jillian Dunston who earned a spot on the 2018 Big Ten All-Defensive Team.
  • She received a Bachelor of Science in Child Education from St. John’s in 2010.
  • McCorvey was part of a coaching staff that signed a consensus Top-20 signing class in 2015.
  • As a former student-athlete from 2006-10, she led the Red Storm to three post-season trips which included an NCAA Second Round appearance in 2010.
  • She ranks third at St. John’s with 777 career rebounds and is one of just four players at the school with 700+ points and rebounds.
  • McCorvey, a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, was an assistant coach at her alma mater in 2011-12 in a season that included ending UConn’s 99-game win streak and reaching the program’s first NCAA Sweet 16.
