TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Phil Cofer, who was named to the 2018 NCAA Tournament West Region All-Regional Team, enjoyed a five-year career at Florida State – a career that concluded with him earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology on May 4, 2019. He’s now working on taking his passion to the National Basketball Association.
Since earning his degree from Florida State in early May, Cofer has spent his days and nights in the gym working on his skills and getting his body in shape for the rigors for a career in professional basketball.
“I’ve been working out twice a day and most days three times a day,” said Cofer. “I’m doing what I have always done – giving it all my all in every workout, working to keep my body right and getting in the best shape I have been in my life.
Cofer played in 133 games and led Florida State to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his career as a Seminole. He finished eighth in school history for career games played and is in Florida State’s all-time top-25 with 83 career games started. Cofer finished his career as one of the top 3-point shooting specialists in school history. He shot nearly 37 percent from the 3-point line for his career including shooting 38 percent as both a junior and senior.
“I have really enjoyed the grind of preparing myself,” said Cofer. “I’ll start traveling to work out for teams this week and I’m really looking forward to showing the teams what I can do on the court.”
Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton watched Cofer work throughout his career to improves his skills on the basketball court every day of his Seminole career. The Seminole head coach has made it his life’s mission to help put his players in position to realize all of their dreams and is very confident in Cofer’s ability to be successful on the next level of Cofer’s career.
“Phil Cofer is one of the hardest working players we have ever had in our program,” said Hamilton. “I have no doubt that he is going to work as hard as he possibly can to get himself into the best shape he has ever been in on the basketball court. When Phil goes in for his workouts, he is going to show those teams that he is a skilled and smart player who will be a great addition to their team.
