TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – And then there were four! The final week of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer season is here and for the fourth year in a row that final weekend will include Florida State. The Seminoles clinched a spot in the College Cup following their 5-0 victory over South Carolina.
FSU (22-1-1) will face Stanford (20-1-3) in the second semifinal inside FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla., on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. with the match airing live on ESPNU. The first semifinal will feature Texas A&M and Virginia at 5 p.m.
Florida State earned the ACC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after claiming its third league title in the last four years. This year’s berth marks FSU’s 15th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Stanford received an at-large bid out of the Pac-12. The Cardinal are making their 24th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 17th trip in a row in 2014.
The Seminoles return to the College Cup for the fourth year in a row and eighth time in school history. The eight College Cup appearances are tied for the fifth most in tournament history (Portland). Since
2003, FSU’s eight College Cup appearances are tied with UCLA for the most by any school.

semifinal than the three other schools. Friday’s second match will feature 15 combined semifinal appearances (Stanford – 7), while the first match will feature just four appearances (Virginia – 3, Texas A&M – 1).
FSU and Stanford are meeting for just the third time on Friday evening with all three meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal have won the two prior meetings outscoring the Seminoles 8-0. The two schools last met in the 2011 College Cup semifinals in Kennesaw, Ga., where Stanford defeated
Florida State 3-0 en route to the Cardinal’s first national championship.
Florida State is 15-6-1 all-time against Pac-12 schools including a mark of 4-5-0 in the NCAA Tournament. FSU has not faced a Pac-12 school this year. The last Pac-12 school the Seminoles faced was UCLA in last year’s national championship final.
FSU will play in Boca Raton for only the second time this weekend. The Seminoles traveled to FAU in 2006 defeating the Owls 2-1.
Florida State sits at 47-13-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, good for a .774 winning percentage. It marks the second best postseason winning percentage of all time (trailing only North Carolina). FSU’s 47 wins are the fifth most in NCAA history, while only one other school in NCAA history has averaged more wins per NCAA Tournament trips than FSU with that being North Carolina.
