Compton Named CoSIDA Academic All-District For Third Time
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball’s Mike Compton garnered off-the-field honors on Thursday when he was selected to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team for the third time in his career.
A native of Branson, Mo., Compton earned his bachelor’s degree in applied economics in the fall of 2014, where he finished with a 3.92 GPA. Since that point he has pursued a master’s degree in business marketing, maintaining a 3.86 GPA in the master’s program.
On the field, Compton is 5-3 overall with a 4.53 ERA in 11 starts in 2016. Three of those victories have come in Atlantic Coast Conference play against Georgia Tech (March 11), Boston College (April 1) and Notre Dame (April 23).
Compton, a senior captain along with John Sansone, is tied with teammates Drew Carlton (5-2) and Jim Voyles (5-0) for the most wins by an FSU pitcher. He has logged the second-most innings (53.2) on staff, behind only Carlton, has allowed the fewest walks (17) of any hurler with at least five starts.
Compton, with a career 28-12 mark, will serve as the Friday night starter for the Seminoles when they host Bowling Green as part of three game series that begins on Friday, May 6.
The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
