Corbin, Toafili Included On Doak Walker Award Watch List

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State running backs Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili were both named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, it was announced Wednesday.

Corbin started eight games in 2020 and totaled 548 all-purpose yards, rushing for 401 yards and five touchdowns while adding 115 receiving yards and 32 kickoff return yards. The redshirt sophomore from Rockledge, Florida, scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns, one shy of FSU’s single-game school record, to help the Seminoles defeat Duke 56-35 in the season finale. He showcased his versatility by rushing for a season-high 77 yards at North Carolina State, including a 28-yard touchdown run from the Wildcat formation on 4th-and-1. Corbin, who transferred to Florida State after spending his first two seasons at Texas A&M, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2018.

Toafili appeared in eight games last season as a true freshman and accumulated 476 all-purpose yards, courtesy of 356 yards and two touchdowns rushing and 120 yards on 12 receptions. His average of 9.62 yards per carry led the ACC and ranked second in the NCAA among backs with at least 4.0 rushes per game. The St. Petersburg, Florida, native was named FSU’s co-Offensive Freshman of the Year for his performance in 2020 and was chosen as the ACC’s Rookie of the Week after gaining 99 yards and his first collegiate touchdown in FSU’s 41-24 defeat of Jacksonville State. Toafili had a season-high 117 rushing yards with a 73-yard touchdown run in the win over Duke.

The Doak Walker Award, named for the three-time All-American running back from SMU, is presented annually to the nation’s top running back. FSU is one of two ACC schools with multiple running backs on this year’s preseason watch list.

Florida State has been represented on each of the four national awards watch lists released so far in 2021. Quarterback McKenzie Milton is on watch lists for the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award, while linebacker Amari Gainer is on the Bednarik Award Watch List.

Florida State opens its 2021 campaign by hosting Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 5. The season opener will air on ABC with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Season and single-game tickets are available here. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the FSU Ticket Office at 850-644-1830 or by contacting Seminole Boosters customer service representatives.
