TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Incoming freshman Dominic Cotrone participated in the USTA National Boys’ 18 Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Bradenton, Fla. native reached the fourth round of the singles main draw.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Cotrone played in the second round where he won 6-4, 6-2 on August 6. Two days later, Cotrone came up big and defeated the No. 13 seed in the tournament needing two tiebreakers to win 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2). In the fourth round on August 9th, Cotrone fell in a tight three-set match 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3). In the fourth round of the feed in draw, Cotrone fell 7-6 (5), 6-2.
It is always great coming back to Kalamazoo,” said Cotrone. “It is one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the country. I played pretty well considering it was my first tournament after recovering from an injury. I had a good win over the 13th seed and now I plan to train hard and continue the progression of my game at Florida State.”
