TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – This past week Florida State men’s tennis Associate Coach Nick Crowell coached the Florida USTA Junior U18 team for the fourth year while incoming freshman Dominic Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla.) played for the team. The team finished sixth at the 2011 USTA Boys 18 National Team Championship hosted by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

On Saturday, July 31, Florida faced off against Missouri Valley and won 4-3. On Sunday, August 1, No. 3 Midwest defeated Florida 4-3. On Monday, Florida, who is in the 5-8 seed, took out Eastern, who was also a No. 5-8 seed, 4-3. On the final day of competition on Tuesday, August 3, Northern California defeated Florida 4-3.

“Coaching the Junior Davis Cup is a great honor and I look forward to the event each year,” said Crowell. “This year we had a good team and made a good run. We didn’t claim the title this year but we played hard and fought the whole tournament. I think this tournament is a great preparation for what the players will encounter when they play collegiate tennis.”

Cotrone played strong posting a 2-1 record in doubles. Against Eastern he earned a 8-4 win in doubles. Against Northern California, he won his singles match 6-2, 6-4 while winning his doubles match 8-2.
