Del Solar Named Golfweek All-American

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Redshirt senior men’s golfer Cristobal Del Solar has capped his final season at Florida State in grand fashion, earning Golfweek Third-Team All-America honors as announced by the notable professional and amateur golf publication.

The native of Chile earns the first All-America award of his tremendous career, one year after he earned All-ACC and all-region honors for the

first time as a redshirt junior. In what can be a difficult task, Del Solar managed to top what was the best year of his career in 2015-16 with an even better one in 2016-17.

In 11 tournaments played this past year, Del Solar garnered five Top-10 finishes, highlighted by winning the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate on April 9. He led Florida State with an average score of 71.06 while finishing even against par. He posted three Top-5 finishes, including second at the Rod Myers Invitational and fourth at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in addition to his first-place finish.

In 31 rounds played, Del Solar posted 17 rounds at par or better, including nine in the 60s. He recorded two rounds at six-under this year, tying for the team low, in the second round of the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate (65 in second round) and in the final round of the Rod Myers Invitational (66).

Del Solar once again earned All-ACC honors as well as Division I PING All-Southeast Region honors. He was also one of 30 semifinalists for the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award.

Del Solar ends his FSU career ranking in the Top 10 in several records, including scoring average (72.10 – seventh), rounds at par or less (53 – seventh), rounds played (116 – ninth), finish percentage (70.3 percent – ninth), counting scores (94.5 percent – sixth), birdies (116 – eighth) and eagles (nine – tied for sixth).

Six ACC golfers were recognized as Golfweek All-Americans, including Wake Forest’s Will Zalatoris (First Team), Jimmy Stanger of Virginia (Second Team), Clemson’s Doc Redman (Honorable Mention), Clemson’s Carson Young (Honorable Mention) and Virginia’s Derek Bard (Honorable Mention) in addition to Del Solar.
