TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Men’s Golf Alum Cristóbal Del Solar earned his third career PGA TOUR Latinoamérica title on Sunday, winning the Volvo Golf Championship held in Bogota, Colombia.
The victory moves Del Solar up to second in the Totalplay Cup Points List and puts him in strong position to earn 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Membership. Del Solar must finish in the Top 5 on the points list with two tournaments remaining.
The native of Vina del Mar, Chile, shot 6-under for the tournament and recorded critical pars on each of his last two holes to secure his third championship. Del Solar also won the 2018 Abierto OSDE del Centro in Cordoba, Argentina, and the 2019 Puerto Plata Open in the Dominican Republic.
Earning his Korn Ferry Tour card would mean that Del Solar joins fellow Seminoles John Pak and Vincent Norrman on the tour. On the PGA TOUR, there are six current Seminoles playing in Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger, Hank Lebioda, Chase Seiffert, George McNeill and Jonas Blixt.
Norrman is in position to earn his PGA TOUR card with several Korn Ferry Tour tournaments remaining, sitting in 26th in the current standings. The Top 25 golfers on the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour points list earn their PGA TOUR card.
The final tournament is the Korn Ferry Tour Championship on Sept. 1-4 at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.
Del Solar played at Florida State from 2013-17, earning All-ACC honors in 2016 and 2017 as well as Third Team All-America in 2017. He played in the NCAA Final 30 in all four of his seasons at FSU and earned a tournament win at the Irish Creek Collegiate in 2017.
He currently ranks 10th all-time at FSU in career scoring average at 72.10.
The last two tournaments on the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica include the Fortox Colombia Classic (June 9-12) and the season-ending Bupa Tour Championship (June 23-26).
