Florida State senior Amanda Doherty won her first career individual title, and the Florida State Women’s Golf Team finished in a tie for fifth place in the team standings as play in the IJGA Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club came to a close. Doherty rallied from three strokes back with nine holes remaining to be played to defeat Ingrid Lindblad of LSU by one stroke.

Doherty was four under par with three birdies and the ninth eagle of her Seminole career on her final nine holes to overtake Lindblad and earn medalist honors. The Seminole captain closed her third round par-eagle-birdie-par to move into first place as Lindblad earned par scores on her final seven holes of the round.

The finish was Doherty’s 11th top-ten career finish.

Virginia won the team championship by two strokes over LSU. South Carolina finished third as only three teams finished under par for the 54-hole event.

“This was a good week to knock off the dust,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We had two players who played really, really good golf and who carried us throughout the week. There were a lot of positives, and, there are also a lot of things we have to work on. We will work on those things in the next couple of weeks as we get ready for our home tournament.”

The Seminoles play host to the Florida State Match-Up at the Bay Point Golf Club in Panama City, Feb. 29-March 1.

Doherty finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 68 in the final round of the championship. She carded scores of 70-68-68 to finish as the individual medalist. During the third round, Doherty carded four birdies and one eagle.

“Winning this event was a great first career win for Amanda,” said Bond. She played a lot of solid golf this week. She struck the ball and putted really, really well. We are all very happy for her.”

Sophomore Beatrice Wallin finished the tournament in fourth place with scores of 68-72-70. In the final round she carded four birdies bringing her total to 10 for the tournament.

The tied for fourth place finish was Wallin’s second best career finish – just behind her third place standing at the spring 2019 Evans Derby Experience.

Sophomore Amelia Wlliamson finished in a tie for 46th place in the individual standings with a three-round total of 225. She was never more than one stroke over par during the final round and carded on par four times with one birdie.
