WILMINGTON, N.C. (seminoles.com) – Senior All-American Amanda Doherty is in a tie for seventh place in the individual standings, and the Florida State Women’s Golf team is in a tie for fourth place in the team standings after the first round of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. Doherty carded 17 of her 18 holes under par – including the seventh eagle of her Florida State career – to lead a pair of Seminoles in the top-10 of the individual standings.

Alabama and Illinois, a pair of teams who placed three players in the top 15 of the individual standings, are tied for first place in the team standings after 18 of 54 holes have been played. The Seminoles are in a tie for fourth place in the team standings and are only four strokes out of the team lead. Tunrada Piddon of UCF shot a four under 68 and is the first round individual leader. Doherty is only two strokes behind Piddon in the race for the individual championship.

Leading the way for the Seminoles, both Doherty (tied for seventh in the individual standings) and Puk Lyng Thomsen (tied for ninth in the individual standings) are both in the top-10. Florida State is one of only four teams (the Seminoles, Alabama, Virginia and South Carolina) who have two players in the top 10 of the individual standings after the first two rounds of the tournament.

Doherty carded one eagle, two birdies and 15 holes at par in earning her score of 2 under 70. She was two under on her final 15 holes of the round – one stroke under par on both sides of the course. Doherty was one of five players in the 95 player field with an eagle. The eagle was her second of the fall season – she also earned an eagle in the third round of the season-opening Cougar Classic and has carded three eagles in her last six events dating to the 2019 ACC Championship.

“I hit the ball well today, but I didn’t make as many putts as I would have liked,” said Doherty. “Overall it was a good day. It’s nice to be back with the team; we always have fun when we travel.”

Thomson, a sophomore, finished with a 1 under par score of 71 and is in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings. She carded four birdies and was below par over the course of her final 17 holes of the round. She opened the event par-birdie-par and was a total of two strokes under par when she made the turn. Thomson totaled seven of nine holes at par or better on her back nine.

Thomsen has now carded scores of 71 in both of her last two rounds and has finished with under par scores in four of her last five events. She is averaging 70.60 strokes per round and is a cumulative total of five strokes under par since carding a 70 in the third round of the Schooner fall Classic

Sophomore Amelia Williamson carded a 74 and freshman Elle Johnson totaled a 77.

Florida State begins play in the second round at 9:15 on Saturday morning. The Seminoles will play with South Carolina and UCF.
