PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (seminoles.com) – Sophomore Amanda Doherty finished in a tie for 15th place in the individual standings, and the Florida State women’s golf team finished in 12th place in the team standings as play in the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice at the Poppy Hills Golf Club Came to a close.  Doherty earned her eighth career top-15 finish as she carded a 5-over par score of 218 for the 54-hole event.

The Stanford Intercollegiate was Florida State’s final tournament of the fall season.  The Seminoles earned two top-five and three-top-10 team finishes as they played one of the nation’s toughest fall schedules.

No. 4 UCLA played the best team round of the tournament in the final round and overtook No. 8 Stanford to win the team championship.  The Bruins shot a 9-under par score of 275 and defeated the Cardinal by three shots to win the team championship for the second consecutive year.  UCLA was the only team in the field of 15 to finish with an under par team score.  Andrea Lee of Stanford and Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA – who both shot 4-under par scores of 67 in the final round – finished as the co-champions in the individual standings.  Both Lee and Tavatanakit finished with identical scores of 6-under par 207.

“We had a tough day,” said Head Coach Amy Bond.  “It leaves a bitter taste in our mouths to finish the fall season like this.  However, this finish will motivate us to work hard over the winter on or weaknesses.  We have a lot of work to do but we are looking forward to seeing each of our players improve as the spring season approaches.”

Doherty (Atlanta, Ga.) finished the tournament with a three-round total of 218.  Her scores of 74-68-76 allowed her to finish in the top 15 of the individual standings for the second consecutive event and for the third time in four events this fall.  She did not finish lower than 16th in any of the Seminoles’ four events and finished the season a total of only four strokes over par.   Doherty finished both the Schooner Fall Classic and the ANNIKA Intercollegiate under par.

Doherty finished the fall season with a career-low and team-leading 72.08 stroke average in 12 rounds during four events.

Senior Kayla Jones (Milton, Ga.) led the Seminoles through the third round with a 3-over par score of 74 – her best single round score of the event.  She finished with a team-high tying three birdies as she scored a 74 or better for the third time in nine fall events.  Jones totaled three birdies and 13 holes scored at par or better during the third round.

As a team, Florida State counted 12 birdies in the third round and 34 birdies during the Stanford Intercollegiate to bring its season total to 156.  Bond will donate $10 for each birdie made by one of her players this fall to hurricane relief in the states of Florida and Texas (#birdiesfortxfl).

Florida State opens its spring schedule as it plays host to the jewel of its schedule – the Florida State Match-Up – Feb. 9-11, 2018 at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club.  The Seminoles will also play host to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional May 7-9, 2018 also at the Dona Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club in Tallahassee.
