Doubles Pair Advances To The Bedford Cup Finals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team returned to the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center for day two of the Bedford Cup.  The Florida State doubles pair of Bryn Nahrung and Richard Thongoana advanced to the doubles final tomorrow.

Florida State started the day, going 2-0 in doubles play.  The Seminole duo of Nahrung and Thongoana defeated Manoel Alencar and Alan Rubio of USF to advance in the Bedford Cup doubles final Sunday morning.  Freshman Loris Pourroy teamed up with Sebastian Arcila in the doubles consolation bracket resulting in an 8-2 victory over Luis Fernandez Labarta and Bryan Kulikov of FAU.

The Seminoles had three singles matches on day two. Nahrung started the day for the Noles against UCF’s Manoel Alencar. He lost the first set 6-4 and was then forced to retire the match. Arcila came in and took care of business in his first match, dominating USF’s Jacob Wojcik 6-0, 6-1 sending him to the semifinals.

Arcila took the court as the last singles match of the day against Florida’s Greysen Cacciatore in the main draw semifinals. Cacciatore grabbed the first set 6-4 but Arcila was able to come back and take the second set 6-4 forcing a third set super tiebreaker. The super breaker went back and forth but the Seminole junior eventually fell 19-17.

The Noles are back at the courts tomorrow for the last day of the Bedford Cup at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
