TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Completing her impressive four-year career on the pitch and in the classroom, senior defender Emma Koivisto earned accolades from CoSIDA as well as United Soccer Coaches for her excellence both academically and athletically in 2017.
Koivisto was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 First Team, while also earning a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Third Team for her performances in 2017.
It is the second time that Koivisto has received an academic honor from CoSIDA, adding to her Third Team Academic All-American accolade she received in 2015. It marks the first time she has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region teams.
Koivisto helped anchor a Seminole defense to post eight shutouts in 2017, including a 2-0 win on the road at No. 10 Florida on October 12. She played in 17 total matches on the season, missing four games due to international appearances for the Finland senior national team. Koivisto played every minute of 15 games as a right centerback, and added an assist offensively on August 20 on Megan Connolly’s game-winner against South Alabama.
For her career, Koivisto helped the Seminoles to a record of 69-15-10 and a 26-7-7 mark in ACC play, including three ACC Championships, two trips to the College Cup and the 2014 NCAA National Championship.
Koivisto has earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team, as well as the ACC Academic Honor Roll, in each season as a Seminole and projects to add to that list when this year’s teams are announced in February and July of 2018, respectively.
