HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – The Florida State beach volleyball team advanced two pairs through qualifying at the USAV Collegiate Pairs Championships. Those two pairs will join up with the other three Seminole pairs that automatically qualified for the main draw.
Payton Caffrey and Morgan Chacon went 2-0 on Wednesday getting a 21-19, 21-12 win over Phain/Monk of UCLA and backing that up with a 21-13, 21-9 win over Kujan/Dennis of USC to advance to the main draw.
Macy Jerger and Kate Privett only had to win one as they took down Loyola Marymount’s Nederend/Martin in three sets 21-13, 15-21, 15-13.
The Seminole pairs of Lexi McKeown and Ashley Robert as well as Kiora Sanchez and Jenna Johnson both went 1-1 on the day and did not advance through qualifying.
Caffrey/M. Chacon and Jerger/Privett join Madison Fitzpatrick/Alaina Chacon, Sara Putt/Payton Rund and Brooke Kuhlman/Avery Poppinga as the five FSU pairs that will compete in Pool play of the main draw starting on Thursday.
