TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Five members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams were named to the 2020 Academic All-District® at-large teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
Two divers, senior Cam Thatcher, junior Josh Davidson and sophomore swimmer Izaak Bastian were named men’s first-team All-District, while senior divers Molly Carlson and Ayla Bonniwell were selected for the women’s.
“Izaak is a model student-athlete,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “He’s one of those kids you want 10 more of on your team. We emphasize the importance of working hard in the classroom and that’s reflected in our team GPAs this year. I am so proud of Izaak for what he’s done both in and out of the pool this year.”
“I’m so proud of this group of kids,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Once again, they’ve shown that as class they were just awesome here. They’re really won just about everything on their way out the door.”
All five Seminoles add this academic honor after earning nods to the 2020 All-ACC academic team. Carlson was also the first Seminole in history chosen as the 2020 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® for at-large from district four, which includes NCAA Division I institutions from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Puerto Rico, will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 16-19.
