Florida State Adds Transfer Mack Leonard

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State announced the addition of Mack Leonard, a transfer from Illinois State, Tuesday.

Statement from Travis Wilson

“We could not be more excited to add Mack to Team 39. She is coming off an incredible three-year run at Illinois State where she performed both at the plate and in the circle. She will add left-handed power to our lineup and depth to our pitching staff immediately. She has a passion for the game of softball and wants to compete at the highest level. We are lucky to have such a special player and person choose our program.”

At Illinois State: During her three years at Illinois State, Mack Leonard played in 92 games with 81 starts…she started 27 games in the circle for the Redbirds and made 51 appearances as a pitcher…in three seasons she had a .405 batting average, including a .443 average in 2020 and a .425 average in 2021, her .425 batting average ranks third all-time at Illinois State…In 2021, Leonard had 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored, 26 walks eight doubles and two triples, all to lead the team…she was named to the All-MVC First Team and was an NFCA All-Mideast Region Second Team pick…posted and 11-4 record in the circle with a 3.33 ERA while throwing nine complete games with six shutouts and one save in 2021…she struck out 80 batters in 100 innings of work…led the Redbirds in batting average (.443), runs scored (19), doubles (10) and total bases (63) in 20 games during the shortened 2020 season…during her freshman campaign she appeared in 26 games for Illinois State, including 18 in the circle…she posted a batting average of .300, going 15-for-50 at the dish with five runs scored and a double.

Normal Community HS: Earned four varsity letters as a pitcher at Normal Community…Four-time unanimous Big 12 first-team selection…Earned Second-Team All-State honors in 2018 (Class 4-A)…Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018…Big 12 Pitcher of the Year in 2018…Three-time Big 12 Scholar-Athlete award winner…Named to the ICA all-state team as a junior…Selected as team MVP as a sophomore and a senior…Batted .506 and slugged .899 with eight home runs and 48 RBIs as a junior…Recorded a 1.13 ERA as a sophomore…Logged 24 home runs and 129 RBIs through three seasons at Normal Community … Also plays first base and pitches for BGNSA Avanti’s Angels…2017 ASA Northern National Champions and State Champions…Four-time USSSA State Champion…Three-time ASA State Champion 2016-2018…Improved her ERA from 2.68 in 2015, to 1.59 in 2016 and 1.17 in 2017…Drove in 100 runs in the last two seasons…Batted .481 and slugged .669 in 2017…Garnered high honors every semester.
