TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team announced the addition of transfer Marco Nunez on Tuesday. The Monterrey, Mexico native joins the Seminoles after playing at the University of Georgia his freshman year.

“I’m thrilled to have Marco join our team,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “He’s a lefthander which is a huge advantage for us with him being a really good singles and doubles player. He brings a wealth of experience playing international junior tournaments. He is what we look for in a student-athlete. He’s very committed to getting a business degree. He’s going to do great for us by bringing a lot of energy, enthusiasm and commitment to being the best he can be.”

While at Georgia, Nunez went 17-10 in singles including a 10-1 mark in dual matches. He was 14-10 in doubles. During the fall he won two matches at both the Bulldog Scramble and Bulldog Invitational in Athens. At the ITA Southeast Regional, he reached the round of 32 in singles. He was named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll.

“I’m really excited to start my college career as a Seminole,” said Nunez. “I know the coaches and some of the guys. I’m looking forward to start working with them in the fall.”

Before Georgia, he was ranked No. 51 in ITF Juniors when signed by Georgia and was ranked as high as No. 42 during his career. He reached the semifinals of the 2011 Pan American ITF Championships and won the USTA International Hard Court title.
