Florida State Advances To Play In NCAA Women’s Golf Championship

The Florida State women’s golf team will play in the NCAA Championship after finishing as one of the top eight teams in the NCAA East Regional Championship at Bryan Park. The Seminoles finished the three-round event with a team total of 878 (tied for fourth), were one of the top eight teams in the finial standings and qualified for the NCAA Championship for the eighth time in Debbie Dillman’s 15-year tenure as the Seminoles’ head coach.
Florida State will join the field of 24 teams and six individuals in the NCAA Championship May 23-26 at The Ohio State University. The Seminoles have finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championship in two of the last three years.

Seminole freshman Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) shot a two-under par 70 in the final round and finished with a three-under par total of 213 for the 54-hole event. Westrup finished in a tied for third place in the individual standings only four strokes behind Marci Turner of regional champion Tennessee.

Junior Jaclyn Burch (Ellisville, Mo.) also played well for the Seminoles on the final day with a one-under par score of 70. She finished with a three-day total of 221 – her best tournament score of the spring season. Burch finished tied for 25th to earn the first top-25 regional finish of her career.

Senior Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) played well on the third day with a two over par score of 74. Her 223 total ranks as the second best regional score of her career. She finished tied for 35th place.
Larsson (two previous NCAA Championship appearances) and Burch (one previous NCAA Championship appearance) will lead the Seminoles into the 2006 NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) carded a 77 while junior Kayla Shaul (Cumming, Ga.) shot a 78 in the final round to help lead the Seminoles to their third NCAA Championship in the last four years.
