Florida State And United Way Team Up As Seminoles Play Host To Maine on Saturday

The FSU Men’s Basketball Team and United Way of Tallahassee are pairing up December 8th to take on Maine at 7pm. Police and Fire Departments throughout the Tallahassee area will be competing to win the Inaugural Guns N’ Hoses competition.

Participating in the events, are the Tallahassee Fire Department, Tallahassee Police Department, Crime Prevention Unit of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, D.A.R.E., and others.

The Guns N’ Hoses competition is composed of three different events. The first competition is to fill seats for the basketball game. To support the Fire Departments, enter GOFIRE for the promotional code when purchasing tickets online at To support the Police Departments, enter GOPOLICE. Tickets, with the promotional code, are only $6 each! The Department (Police or Fire) with the most tickets purchased will win that part of the competition.

The second competition is collecting goods for United Way of Tallahassee. Fire Departments will be collecting unwanted clothing at the game, and Police Departments will be collecting canned goods. There will be drop-off locations for the items throughout the main concourse of the Tucker Center.

The third, and final, portion of the competition will be a 5 on 5 basketball game at halftime between the Tallahassee Fire Department and the Tallahassee Police Department for city-wide bragging rights!

Aside from the Guns N’ Hoses competition, there will be many fun things for families to enjoy before and during the game. Mascots, Sparky the Fire Dog, Daren the D.A.R.E. lion, the Lake Jackson Fire Pup, McGruff the Crime Dog, and others will be greeting and entertaining fans. There will be police cars, fire trucks, and other vehicles on display outside of the Civic Center to view and take pictures with as well.
