Dec. 12, 2002

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State baseball team will open the 2003 season in St. Petersburg’s Al Lang Stadium at Florida Power Park. FSU will host Virginia Military Institute in a three-game series from Friday, January 31st through Sunday, February 2nd. Game times are set for 7:00 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. for Saturday and Sunday. The Seminoles went 60-14 last season and are the only team in the country to finish among Collegiate Baseball’s Top 10 in each of the last nine years.

Florida State last played at Al Lang Stadium in May of 2002. The Seminoles recorded a perfect 5-0 mark to win their third ACC Tournament title. FSU also went 5-0 to win the 1997 ACC Tournament in St. Pete.

“We are looking forward to starting our season in St. Petersburg,” said head coach Mike Martin. “It’s like a home away from home for us. The fans have always been outstanding when we have played there in the past and we have a pretty good record at Al Lang Stadium. Hopefully all the Seminoles in the St. Pete area will come out and support what should be a very good college baseball series.”

Tickets are available through the Florida State ticket office at 1-888-FSU-NOLE or 850-644-1830. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

After the VMI series, the Seminoles travel to California to take on Stanford in a three-game series. Both teams are expected to be ranked among the nation’s Top 10 when preseason polls are released.
