PALM CITY, Fla. – The No. 12 Florida State men’s golf team closed out the Valspar Invitational at the Floridian Golf Club on Tuesday tied for seventh. Battling a difficult course in rain and wind, freshman Jack Maguire finished the tournament tied for third in the 15-team field.

The Seminoles finished the third round with a 6-over 290 for a three-day total of 851, good for 1-under par. No. 4 Georgia Tech won the tournament with a 15-under 837.

“I am proud of our effort today,” said head coach Trey Jones. “Rain and wind made the golf course play more difficult today. We did not take care of the par five holes today as a team. There were a lot of positives that we can build on.”

Maguire, ranked No. 38 in the nation by Golfstat, started the day in first place but posted three bogeys on the day including two on the final holes. With a birdie on the sixth hole, he turned in a 2-over 73 to finish the tournament 9-under, three strokes behind first place Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech.

This is the seventh tournament (out of eight this year) a Seminole has finished in the top ten and the 14th finish for an individual in the top 10.

“Jack played another great tournament and will use this experience the next time he has a lead going into the final round,” concluded Jones.

Sophomore Hank Lebioda posted the best round of the day for the Seminoles with a 2-under 69. After starting the morning 3-over through the first three holes, he bounced back and carded five birdies to finish the round. He finished the tournament with a 1-over 214 to finish tied for 27th.

Senior Joaquin Lolas finished tied for 36th with a 4-over 217. He and sophomore Rowin Caron both turned in a 74 on Tuesday. Caron finished the tournament with a 6-over 219 to tie for 47th. Freshman Harry Ellis wrapped up 54 holes with a 7-over 78 to finish tied for 59th with a 223.
