DURHAM, N.C. — Despite a team-high 17 kills from sophomore middle
hitter Norisha Campbell, the Florida State Lady Seminoles dropped their
Atlantic Coast Conference opener to Duke by scores of 8-15, 11-15, 15-9,
8-15. FSU falls to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the ACC while Duke evens its
record at 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Florida State was playing without starting outside hitter
Jennifer Werrick and freshman middle hitter Dawn Hough. Werrick is
being rested due to aching shoulders while Hough sprained her right knee
in practice this week and is experiencing some swelling.
Sophomore outside hitter Luana Ruiz Azevedo recorded her first
career double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs, both career highs, for
Florida State while freshman setter Jamie Hibbard had 44 assists.
Florida State will continue ACC action with a 7 p.m. match at
Wake Forest tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 25.
