Perfect shooting and 23 points by Brian Brown led Ohio State to a 90-65 victory over Florida State on Thursday in a first-round game of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Brown hit all nine of his shots, including five from 3-point range. His 16 points in the first half paced the Buckeyes to a nine-point lead.
Brent Darby added 18 as the Buckeye guards overwhelmed Florida State. Like Brown, most of Darby’s points came in a variety of jump shots away from the basket.
After halftime, the Buckeyes (2-0) went on a 12-2 run that opened a double-digit lead they never relinquished. Darby led the way with a dunk and a pair of jump shots.
Ohio State shot 70 percent in the first half and 60 percent for the game. Ken Johnson, blocked five shots, pulled down six rebounds and scored 16 points for Ohio State.
Florida State (0-2)hung around much of the first half with help from its bench. Reserve Mike Mathews led all Seminoles with 16 points, 11 of them in the first half.
