Florida State Men’s Basketball Team Opens Practice

Oct. 16, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State men’s basketball team began
preparations for its 1999-2000 season today with a pair of practices on the
first day of the season. The Seminoles worked out in the Moore Athletic
Center Gym for two and a half hours on Saturday morning. FSU came back for
90 minutes on Saturday afternoon at the Leon County Civic Center.

“It was a good way to get started,” said Florida State head coach
Steve Robinson, who is starting his third season at the school this year.
“I could tell that most of the guys came back in very good shape. The trip
to Australia also helped the returning guys.”

The day was spent mostly on fundamentals, although Robinson also
began to implement some offensive and defensive schemes.

“It was good to take a look at the newcomers mixed in with the
veterans,” Robinson said. “All of the new guys looked like they belonged
out there. If they were nervous, they didn’t show it.”

The men’s team will take Sunday off as Florida State will hold
Basketball Fan Day at the Civic Center from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both
the men’s and women’s teams will take part in the interactive event.
Admission is free.

The men will hold a Garnet and Gold Game at the Civic Center on
Tuesday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. The Seminoles open their exhibition
season on Wednesday, November 3 against the World Basketball All-Stars at
7:00 p.m. in the Civic Center.

Florida State begins the regular season on November 19 at Florida.
