Oct. 22, 2002

The Florida State University men’s golf team closed out its fall season with an 11th-place finish at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions at the Holston Hill Country Club. Sophomore Rusty Mosley fired his second consecutive even par round of 72 and finished in a tie for 23rd-place in the individual standings to mark the third time in four fall events he had finished in the top-25 of the individual standings.

The Seminoles closed the event with a 290 team score in the third and final round. Junior Alan Beers (Midlothian, Va.) led the Seminoles with a one-under par 71 while Mosley and sophomore Matt Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) carded even-par scores of 72. The Seminoles’ team score was tied for the fifth-best of the final round.

Mosley carded scores of even-par 72 in the second and third rounds of the tournament and finished with a 218 total for the 54-hole event. The 218 total is the second best of his career and sits right behind his career-best 211 total during the Mason Rudolph Classic in September. He finished the fall season with a career-best 72.45 scoring average for 11 rounds in four tournaments.

Beers finished in a tie for 44th place as he finished the tournament in strong fashion. He scored a 72 in the second round and a 71 in the final round for a final 36-hole total of 143. Adcock carded three round below 75 and finished the fall season with a team-leading 72.16 scoring average for the season.

Freshman Adam Wallace (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Eric Beaty (Germantown, Tenn.) also played well for the Seminoles.

Florida State opens its spring season as it plays in the University of Florida Gator Invitational Feb. 8-9 in Gainesville, Fla.

Georgia won the team championship as it finished two strokes ahead of Tennessee, the host school. Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker won the tournament’s individual title with an overall total of 204 (-11).
