Florida State Softball Adds Four To Roster

Dec. 4, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State head softball coach Jo Anne Graf announced the 2009 softball recruits last week. Four new faces will be joining the Seminole squad next fall, including Floridians Shayla Jackson, Carly Speerin and Courtney Stager and California native Amber Bryant.

Graf feels confident the new class will blend with the veterans nicely in the 2009 season.

Amber Bryant
Pomona, Calif.
Diamond Ranch High School
So Cal Aftershock Gold

Head coach JoAnne Graf on Amber:
“Amber’s got a lot of speed and she will work her way into the outfield. She’s a lead-off hitter and a very smart base runner. We’re excited about her potential. I think she’s the kind of player that, as she plays against better competition, she’s going to continue to improve.”

Shayla Jackson
Pembroke Pines, Fla.
Pembroke Pines Charter High School
Gold Coast Hurricanes Gold

Graf on Shayla:
“Shayla’s another outfielder with speed that comes from a very good summer league program in Florida. I think she has great potential and over the course of last summer she improved tremendously.”

Carly Speerin
Lake Worth, Fla.
Park Vista Community High School
Lady Gators Gold

Graf on Carly:
“Carly can play anywhere in the infield; I feel confident putting her at any position. We’re looking at her more as a first or third baseman and she’s got really good power for her size. She’s deceiving because she’s not a big, big kid so you don’t think she’s going to hit very far. But she really maximizes her swing and has a lot of power.”

Courtney Stager
Trinity, Fla.
J.W. Mitchell High School
Florida Ultimate Gold

Graf on Courtney:
“Courtney can play outfield, pinch run, catch and has a lot of assets. She has a lot of options as where to play just because of her versatility. Her sister, Ashley, is on the team now so she will join her. They have a great family and we’re really excited to have her this season. ”
