For the second year in a row, the Seminole and Rattlers ended up meeting the FSU Invitational with Florida State prevailing 9-4.
Tuesday’s meeting with FAMU will be the 99th between the two schools. FSU holds the all-time lead 91-7. The Seminoles lead the series 40-5 on the Florida A&M campus, but the Rattlers have won a game at home against FSU in each of the last two seasons.
During the first meeting of the season junior pitcher Tiffany McDonald (Belfair, Wash) threw the second no-hitter of her career. McDonald has moved up to tenth in school history with 573.2 innings and ninth at 106 appearances.
Florida State comes into Tuesday’s game looking to snap a four-game losing streak. FSU won it’s first game at the Judi Garman Classic, 3-1, over No. 12 Washington, but then lost it next four by a total of five runs.
Sophomore transfer Jessica Gilmore (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) hit her first home run as a Seminole against Cal State Northridge. It was the first homer since April 16, 2005, when she hit one against Auburn as a member of the Georgia softball team.
Player of the Year candidate Veronica Wootson (Fontana, Calif.) jumped up to third in FSU history with 171 runs scored and seventh at 248 hits.
