TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Four-time defending ACC Champion Florida State enters its 35th season of fastpitch softball in 2018 with a 26-game winning streak against conference opponents and looks to continue to be one of the top programs in college softball with the release of its 2018 regular season schedule.
Overall, Florida State will play against six teams that were ranked in the final NFCA poll of the 2017 season, including No. 2 Florida and No. 4 Oregon. The Noles will compete against 11 different conferences prior to ACC play and will face six teams that won either the regular season or tournament title for their respective leagues in 2017 – Florida A&M (MEAC), McNeese (Southland), Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley), Minnesota (Big Ten), Florida (SEC) and Louisiana (Sun Belt).
The Seminoles were ranked No. 1 in the nation for eight weeks in 2017 and will play two games each against Minnesota and Florida, which combined to hold the No. 1 ranking for six of the other eight weeks last season.
“Our schedule will be an exciting challenge for us this season,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “We had a great fall with Team 35 and I know we will be prepared for the opportunities ahead of us in the spring. We’re a new team with a new identity, and I am looking forward to see how all the pieces fit together once we get started in February.”
The season will begin in San Marcos, Texas as FSU joins Texas State, Portland State and Sam Houston State in the Bobcat Classic on February 9-11. The Noles will return home for a game against Florida A&M on February 14 before hosting the 2018 Big Ten/ACC Challenge on February 16-18 as Minnesota and Michigan, along with Notre Dame, come to Tallahassee.
The Noles will play in a midweek matchup on February 20 against McNeese, before traveling to Mobile, Ala., for a doubleheader at South Alabama on February 21 on their way to Tuscaloosa for the Easton Bama Bash on February 23-25. Alabama will host FSU, Northern Iowa and Georgia State during the weekend.
Florida State will welcome Hofstra, Oregon and Florida Gulf Coast for the Unconquered Invitational on March 2-4, before heading on the road to play games against Penn and North Florida on March 8 and 10, respectively.
The Seminoles will begin the 2018 ACC schedule at home on March 16-18 with a series against Virginia Tech. A midweek doubleheader at home against Troy on March 21 will transition into another home conference series with Syracuse on March 23-25.
The first ACC road trip of the season will be to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech on March 30-April 1. The Noles will host a doubleheader with Louisiana on April 4 before a three-game set against Pitt on April 6-8. The Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown will begin in Tallahassee in 2018, and the Noles and Gators will play on April 11 at JoAnne Graf Field.
A series at Boston College on April 13-15 sets the stage for the final home series of the season on April 21-23 against Louisville. FSU will head to Gainesville to play Florida on April 25 before closing out the regular season with a pair of road series at Notre Dame (April 27-29) and NC State (May 4-6).
