Florida State Tennis Heads West For All-American Tournament

Sept. 28, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State once again hits the road for a fall tournament as the men’s tennis team will take on some of the nations best players at the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

“We want to have good results and some of the top teams in the country are there,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “It really lets you know where you stand as a team based on how your guys do out there against the best competition in the country.”

The Seminoles will send six of their best to the tournament. Senior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan), juniors Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.), sophomores Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.), and freshman Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) will all compete during the weekend.

Florida State looks to build off of last weekends results that saw the Seminoles take some of the best players in the country to three sets. Hultquist hopes his players have learned from those experiences and that it will make them better starting Saturday.

“I think we played well last weekend, we lost some close matches but we’re looking to win a few more,” said Hultquist. “I think we’ll have some good results, we’re practicing hard, we’re in good shape and ready to make a run.”

Mixson and Cloer will compete in the pre-qualifying rounds of the tournament beginning Saturday, while the other four Seminoles will begin play Monday during the qualifying rounds. In doubles, Chang and Sykut will pair together. The two teammates were ranked No. 26 in the FILA/ITA preseason rankings. The other two teams will be Cloer and Mixson and Aubone and Bowles.

“All three teams have a good opportunity to advance,” said Hultquist. “We’ve got some good doubles players, we like our doubles’ teams.”
