TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State will make their second trip of the season to Terre Haute, Ind. this weekend to compete in the final race of the year, the 2008 NCAA National Championship. Nationals will be held at Indiana State’s La Vern Gibson Championship Course in Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. Only three other ACC schools will compete at nationals: Boston College, NC State and Virginia.
“I think it’s exciting we were able to rest our No. 1 men’s runner and No. 2 women’s runner and still have an outstanding NCAA qualifying meet,” said men’s head coach Bob Braman. “That is really gratifying because your other runners did a great job and stepped up.”
The undefeated women’s cross country team will hit the course first running the 6K at 12 p.m. on November 24th. Riding the wave of success after winning both the ACC Championship and South Region Championship for two consecutive years, the women look to top their third place finish at last year’s championship. The Seminoles return to Indiana with one out of two athletes who made the top ten at last year’s race, junior Susan Kuijken (Nijmegen, Netherlands) who finished with 19:57.30 in third place.
After learning they were invited for a sixth-consecutive trip to nationals just a few days ago, the men’s cross country team had nothing but excitement and adrenaline in them. After a fourth place ACC Championship finish and earning third place at regionals, the Seminoles will get down to business starting at 12:45 p.m. next Monday to run the 10K race.
“There is pride that we have been able to compete for six consecutive years at nationals,” said Braman. “We have a lot of excitement on what’s to come this weekend. We have great momentum going into the meet.”
