April 11, 2014

DEDHAM, Mass. – The No. 28-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team rose to a 16-9 record this spring after defeating Boston College (6-14) 7-0 Friday night. The Seminoles are now 4-5 in ACC play after today’s match at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex in Dedham, Mass.

“It was a nice win,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “With it being played indoors, our guys were able to adjust to the quick courts. We had a great start in doubles and we finished it out strong.”

Adjusting the doubles line-up, the Seminoles came away with the doubles point after quick wins on courts two and three. Playing together for the first time, junior Dominic Cotrone and sophomore Marco Nunez won 8-3. Also playing together for the first time was senior Blake Davis and junior Cristian Gonzalez Mendez who won 8-2.

The Seminoles did not drop a set as they went on to sweep singles play. On court one, No. 84-ranked Cotrone topped Philip Nelson 6-3, 6-2 while No. 100-ranked Gonzalez Mendez snapped his four match losing streak to defeat Jonathan Raude 6-3, 6-4 on court two. Davis topped Aiden McNulty 6-3, 6-1 on court three.
